PIPES Components

The PiPES project has various components for students and families:

A PiPES Intervention Course is delivered to all ninth- and tenth-grade students at Jellico High School, Sequoyah High School, Sweetwater High School, and Tellico Plains High School. This course is designed to inform students about college, connect academics to college/career, and inform students about STEMM career options.

A summer program experience is available for up to 70 students each June We offer two different experiences:

  • PiPES Explorers Camp– This four-day camp is for up to 50 rising sophomores and juniors at our four partner schools. Campers explore campus and college life by participating in many hands-on activities, lab tours, campus tours, and hearing from guest speakers from admissions, the career center, and more!
  • PiPES Investigators Camp– This five-day camp is for up to 20 rising juniors and seniors at our four partner schools. Campers participate in ACT Prep each morning and in-depth STEM research lab placements each afternoon.

Video Series

We have put together a video series highlighting rural Appalachians currently working in STEM fields to be shown in high school classrooms. You can find the videos on our website here and our YouTube channel.

12th Grade Senior College Prep Course

PiPES is piloting a 12th Grade Senior College Prep Course at our four partner high schools. Our target audience for this course is highly self-motivated students who are mainly interested in attending a four-year college. Modules cover content about selecting a college, applying, transitioning to college, and introductory STEM course help. Interested students can email pipes@utk.edu to enquire about being added to the course.
