PIPES Components

The PiPES project has various components for students and families.

A PiPES Intervention Course is delivered to all tenth-grade students at Jellico High School, Sequoyah High School, Sweetwater High School, and Tellico Plains High School. This course is designed to inform students about college, connect academics to college/career, and inform students about STEMM career options.

A Summer Program experience is available for up to 150 students each summer on the University of Tennessee campus. For the three-day summer program experience, students are brought to campus from their high school by bus. Each day, students experience college life, explore STEMM career options, and investigate public service project ideas. More information about the summer program is available here.

PiPES Ambassadors is an after-school club for students in 10th or 11th grade who have completed the PiPES intervention course and/or attended summer camp. Students in this club meet twice a month to learn about leadership and communication skills and participate in a STEMM project.

A Science in Action component is offered for some second-year PiPES students. Science and Health Science teachers at our partner high schools lead students through activities provided by PiPES. Students continue to explore STEMM careers and engage in a public health outreach project with their science teachers and students from the University of Tennessee.

PiPES Communities offers free career services for students, families, and local community members. These services are offered after school one day a week.

Information for parents about the project will be provided through this website, brochures sent home with students, and parent nights held at each high school during the fall and spring semesters.

Information about applying for college and paying for college can be found on our website or from your school counselors.
